August  28th
	English Speaking club. The topic of the meeting was Fashion. The members of the club shared what kind of style they preferred. A lot of interesting questions were discussed. Students Nastya and Helen showed costumes which they made my themselves, it was Chinese and Japanese kimono. Josef Battilega mentioned that character clothes for Americans are baseball cap, T-shirt and jeans. Some fashion books and magazines were presented. Josef was impressed by Dnipropetrovsk fashion and asked girls where they bought their clothes.
August  26th
	The English language teacher at specialized school № 22 Valentina Shvydka learned about the opportunities of the  program of self-studying the English language Rosetta Stone  in WOA Dnipropetrovsk. She made a brief advertising for the teachers of English at a seminar in Dnipropetrovsk. (120 teachers) The meeting of the head of WOA and the pupils of the school № 22  was planned to inform them about the resources of the Center.
August  21st
	English Speaking club dedicated to the birthday of famous fantasist Ray Bradbury. There were not very many fans of science fiction. Thrillers and fantasy are more popular among readers . Joseph confirmed that thrillers were popular in the US. And the most popular writers are Dan Brown, John Grisham. We discussed the novel "Fahrenheit 451" of Ray Bradbury. According to the politician Vadim the society of Fahrenheit is the result of political correctness, even to the absurd. Photocopies of illustrations to works of science fiction classics that were prepared in advance by student Cyril, made a great recovery in the conversation, clearly demonstrated the views of writers for the future. And the members of the Discussion club discussed the following: problems of law, taxes  etc.
August  14th
	English Speaking club. It was a 5-hour talk with Josef about economics, people, problems, cities –  California. During the conversation the questions of science, medicine, religion. Ukrainians were interested in questions of formal and informal leadership in schools, situations which take place in American schools etc.
August 7th
	English Speaking club. The topic of the meeting is Colorado Day. Josef Battilega told about this state because he had visited it several times and knows it quite well. The members of the club had an opportunity to watch a slide-show about Colorado and also a short video about National Park Rocky Mountains.
August 5th
	A book exhibit «Summer Fiction: Detective stories, Romance, For children». Josef Battilega and Tamara Gavrilyuk like to read detective stories. Vadim Saveskul got interested in Harry Potter books. Nastya Burova decided to take literature for children to read.
July 31st
	Speaking Club in the center of Window on America in Dnipropetrovsk dedicated to the birthday of a world-known English writer J.K. Rowling (born on the 31st of July 1965), an author of novels of Harry Potter. The members of the club were offered to watch an informational slide-show. It got acquainted them with a charming woman J.K. Rowling and the heroes of her novels - Harry, Ron, Hermione, ghosts, wizards, magical plants etc. The questions allowed to find out: - that the literature for children is interesting for adults? - what symbols were used in the novels? - why the book became so popular? - that it's better to read the books than to watch the movies? - what a morality the books have? - if the eighth book is written? - if Joanne Rowling was the best novelist? The discussion touched the question of great commercial success of the books. The books lied on the table (the gift of the friend of the center American Linda Gray) got interested someone to read them. Our guest from California Josef took part in discussion, because he had read 5 books of the Harry Potter series . He noticed that these books are very popular in the USA. And there is a very interesting fact that although quite a lot of Americans don't like to read Joanne Rowling made them to take a book and to read the novels. Besides Josef agreed that the books of Harry Potter could be interesting for the readers of any age because they could find something useful for them in her novels.
July 24th
	English Speaking club. The topics like religion, architecture and culture, economics, politology. In the end of the meeting we had a short conversation with Youngtae Shin via Skype. We congratulated her as it was her birthday. Savescul Vadym: The more I come to the Speaking club the more I admire how fast not just the solidarity and self organization of its members are growing as well as their fluently in English and confidence. Even when we don’t have a native speaker around. It never discourages us and as today for instance we have no problem to find an interesting subject or rather set of subjects to talk about.
July 17th
	English Speaking club dedicated to the birthday of American violinist of Ukrainian origin Isaac Stern. The meeting was prepared by Svitlana Kolesnikova. A new guest from the USA, California visited our Center. It was Josef Battilega who told about his liking for music, literature, theaters. Josef Battilega donated some books of his own to our Center and the members of the WOA have an opportunity to read them. Usenko Svitlana: I interesting formation in The Columbia Encyclopedia: sixth edition/ edited by Pаul Lagasse. – 2000.– 3156 р. (Р.2715) Isaac Stern (Ukrainian: Стерн Ісаак; July 21, 1920 – September 22, 2001) was a Ukrainian-born violin virtuoso. He was renowned for his recordings and for discovering new musical talent. Brought to the United States as an infant, Stern began piano lessons at the age of six and violin lessons at eight. He studied at the San Francisco Conservatory and made his debut at 11 with the San Francisco Symphony Or¬chestra. After his New York debut in 1937 at Town Hall, Stern made extensive and brilliantly successful world tours. He is considered one of the leading contemporary virtuosos. Mirgorodckya Sasha: Meeting a new native speaker and investigate his idea of the things you already know is always interesting. It is the best way to learn English and to learn the USA versatility. Savescul Vadym: The topics of our conversations with Joseph were very diverse because our today’s guest happened to have very interesting and versatile personality. So they varied from music and literature to differences between American and Ukrainian tax legislations, real-estate prices in the U.S., Ukraine, and EU and even, current healthcare reform initiated by Barack Obama. Since Joseph’s scope of interests was very broad virtually everybody had something to talk about with him, including Greek tragedy and Sumerian mythology.
July 10th
	English Speaking club. It was held by Svitlana Kolesnikova. The center was visited by 5 guests from Spain, India and Russia- Jorge Coronilla, Isaac Lahsen, Pankenh Jhamar Jhawar, Anya and Max Pautov. The topics for discussion were India – the country of contrasts, Ukraine for foreigners, the differences between cultures of Spain, India and Ukraine. The members of discussion club told about their native city to foreigners who were quite interested in those facts. Vasiliy Tofel: The meeting was extremely interesting because there were foreigners, rather intelligent people.
July 3rd
	English Speaking club dedicated to the Independence Day. It was prepared by Svitlana Usenko and held by Yana Litvinova. The members of the Discussion Club answered the questions about this holiday and demonstrated their knowledge of American history.
June 26th
	English Speaking club dedicated to International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. It was prepared by Svitlana Usenko and held by Svitlana Kolesnikova. The members of the meeting had learnt that In 1987, the UN General Assembly decided to observe 26 June as the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking as an expression of its determination to strengthen action and cooperation to achieve the goal of an international society free of drug abuse. A lot of serious questions were discussed. In the end of the meeting we had a role-play What would you do If you knew your best friend is drug addict?
June 19th
	English Speaking сlub. The topic of it is Emancipation Day – Juneteenth (Texas),. In the beginning of the club the new member Oksana Kostiuchenko who lives in Canada told us about the life there, negative and positive sides of living there. Yana Litvinove who had just returned from Italy told about Milan, Venice. Svitlana Usenko also told about Chicago and Washington and her trip to the USA in general. Kolesnikova Svitlana: Every member of English speaking club was surprised with a wonderful stories about Washington , Chicago, Ottawa, Milano, Venice. It was interesting to learn about American libraries, their work and organization, about Chicago public library witch budget is about $ 30 mln. Chicago successfully combines modern skyscrapers and green parks.

	Informational hour dedicated to the American Flag and the Rules as for its using. The text was prepared.
June 12th
	English Speaking club. The guest of the meeting was a participant of АIESEC Daphne. She is French but she studies in Canada, so she told us about life in France and Canada, about her Study. Her story was accompanied with a slide-show. Natalie Karmaz’: At our last meeting we had unique opportunity to communicate with Daphne, Canadian student from AISEC. She lives in Quebec, Canada. Daphne has lived in Serbia (Belgrad), Russia (Moscow) for 1 year. She is going to stay for 2 months in Ukraine.

	Svitlana Usenko, a participant of the program The Open World who visited in April 2010 Chicago and Washington held a virtual trip to the USA for the librarians of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Library. She reported about innovations in American libraries.

	Two exhibits were presented: Americans celebrate and If you want to study in the USA (to help everyone who wants to pass exams TOEFL/GME/GMAT  and study in the USA).
June 8th
	The head of WOA Svitlana Usenko gave a short presentation to the librarians of Dnipropetrovsk Regional Library about her trip to the USA, the cities she visited, the work of American libraries. It was a story about Public Library of Chicago, Harper college, Palatine city etc.
June 5th
	English Speaking Club dedicated to Socionics. It was prepared by Svitlana Kolesnikova. Socionics is a relatively young and dynamically developing branch of psychology which is based on Carl Jung's work on Psychological Types. According to Jung's theory of Psychological Types we are all different in fundamental ways. One's ability to process different information is limited by their particular type. These types are sixteen. In addition to 16 psychological types, there are 16 kinds of intertype relations based on the nature of information interchange between types.  The members were tested and their sociotypes were defined.
May 31st
	WOA meeting. The guests of the Center were an American professor of political science Youngtae Shin and a tourist Sam from Texas. Sam told about his University in Texas where he studied math. Now he studies in Budapest and he told about his study. Our Ukrainian students also told Sam some peculiarities of studying in Ukraine because Sam was extremely interested in that.

	12-00-20-00 – Outdoor meeting with Youngtae Shin. The members of WOA organized an outdoor meeting to Samara Desert-Nicholas Monastery  with Youngtae Shin.
May 29th
	WOA meeting  with a professor of history Linda B. Gray. The main topic that was interesting to everybody was political situation in the USA and Ukraine. Linda told us about the first steps of Barack Obama as a president of the USA. Drogashevskey Sasha: The meeting was great, very interesting and funny. I learnt a lot of interesting things about American culture! Tofel Vasil: The meeting was interesting and full of new guests. Lind B. Gray told about her academic career and every-day life in American universities. All present people could to get acquainted with the dissertation of Lind B. Gray, presented to the library of "Window On America" Center. Participants of the meeting asked many interesting questions about the USA. Discussion about political life in the USA and Ukraine was very hot. Lind B. Gray told about first steps of Barack Obama as American president, reform of medical insurance, peculiarities of internal policy. Ukrainian students expressed their own vision of Ukrainian political situation. «Oberig» is small present from members of Window on America for good memory about our Center and Ukraine. We are very grateful to Linda. She made our meetings extremely interesting and unforgettable.

	English Speaking Club with Linda B. Gray. The participants of the discussion club asked Linda many questions about her family, work, hobbies. Linda made up an interesting topic about dreams. Gavruluk Tamara: Mrs.Linda is a very charismatic person. I am very glad to meet her and enjoyed every minute of the communication at the WoA meeting. Shinkarenko Olga: I’m grateful for that opportunity to come and speak English last night. It’s always a privilege for me to communicate with our foreign guests and our Ukrainian friends. Kirichenko Sergey: The meeting was really interesting and very useful for us and personaly for me. I have got a good chance communicate with native-speakers. It is good possibility improve my English! So I strongly advice it for everyone who wants to be successful English speaker! Join to us!!! Ganushevich Kostya: Linda Gray, History Professor from the state Vermont. USA, has visited “Window on America” several times during her visit in Ukraine. Everybody who took part in the discussion with the professor remained very satisfied and pleased with the discussion. 	Some members of the club Window on America visited the professor Youngtae Shin’s lecture “Educational system of USA” which was held in Dnipropetrovsk National University.

	English Speaking club. The guests of this meeting were : the professor of political science Youngtae Shin and the professor of historyLinda B. Gray. They were shown a slide-show about our Center. Linda Gray told some facts about her native state Vermont, and Youngtae Shin – about Oklahoma and its symbols. Our members especially students were interested to know everything about American universities and Ukrainian students who study there. Tofel Vasil: The last meeting was extremely interesting. Many people came, among them – new participants of our Club. But most of all, I appreciated the opportunity to communicate with native-speakers - Linda and Youngtae. I was very surprised they remember our club members which met 2 years ago! I learnt a lot of new information about Vermont, Vermont bridges, maple syrup, university life, Oklahoma, Ukrainian students in the USA, etc. In addition, Linda recommended interesting books from the library of Center. I hope, we will see Linda and Youngtae more at our meetings! Kolesnicova Svitlana: The meeting was great! Linda Grey and Youngtae Shin made a big present for us by visiting our center!! I was strongly impressed with their stories about their own states. The atmosphere was very warm.

May 15th
	English Speaking club  dedicated to the 95-th anniversary of the American economist Paul A. Samuelson (15 May  1915 – 13 December 2009). There was an exhibit with photos, books, booklets. Svitlana Usenko presented her slide-show Washington and Chicago – how it was devoted to her business-trip to the USA. She told about her taking part in the program The Open World and a lot of interesting facts about these cities and about the USA in general. Kolesnicova Svitlana: Every member of English speaking club was surprised with a wonderful story about Chicago. It was interesting to learn about American libraries, their work and organization! Everybody was amused with nice pictures of beautiful buildings in Chicago, its skyscrapers, architecture! Tofel Vasil: The meeting was very interesting. Before I knew only some particular facts about Chicago. But after the watching the presentation about this city I learnt a lot of new things. And now I know about Chicago much more than average Ukrainian. This city successfully combines modern skyscrapers and green parks. And I remembered few places in Chicago I liked the most - Cloud Gate, 110-storied skyscraper (Willis Tower), Chicago public library. I was very impressed that fact that annual budget of Chicago public library is about $ 30 mln. We also watched some pictures of Washington. We could easily recognized many famous places in this city. In addition we mentioned Paul Samuelson, the first American to win the Nobel Prize in Economics (he was born May 15). And by the way, Samuelson studied at the University of Chicago and received his Bachelor of Arts degree there in 1935. The meeting was very informative and interesting.

	English Speaking club  dedicated to The Mother’s Day. This year Americans celebrate it on the 8th of March. The members of the Club were offered to watch the video, which had interesting information about this holiday. Another topic of this meeting was “Dreams in the night or nightmare. What do our dreams mean?” The members shared personal information about their dreams. We discussed if it was worth to be scared of nightmares.
April 29th
	Svitlana Usenko took part in the Foreign languages Week in Dnipropetrovsk Free Development school.  There was a meeting with pupils of 1st-11th grades. 284 people were present at the meeting. They watched a slide-show about the history of foundation and present of Window on America informational center. Also the pupils had an opportunity to watch slide-shows about Walt Disney, American symbols, Thanksgiving, American libraries and possibility of studying in the USA.
April 28th
	Display «Washington & Chicago - how it was» with materials brought from the USA by the head of the American Corner Svitlana Usenko who was the participant of the “The Open World” program.
April 24th
	English Speaking club. The topic if this discussion club was The Library of Congress. The meeting was prepared by Svitlana Kolesnikova. The members of the club were asked to read the text about the history and modern times of the library. The next topic was dedicated to the Youth Day. The members of the club took part in discussion. They discussed such questions: “What kind of youth will it be in a few years?”. At the end of the meeting the participants showed their knowledge of recently learnt idioms.
April 17th
	English Speaking club dedicated to Earth Day. The main question was: What do we do to make our environment cleaner? It was interesting to listen opinions of all members of the club. Thanks to the slide-show prepared by the school girl Polina Aladyina we managed to find out some facts about the week of ecology and environment protection.
April 14-24
	The head of Dnipropetrovsk American corner “Window on America” Svitlana Usenko was the participant of the program Open World. She visited Washington and Chicago In April 2010 a group of six Ukrainian librarians came to Chicago to learn about American library and educational systems. ICEA, the hosting organization, headed by Larisa Koval, president, had designed the program in which the delegates had an opportunity to visit local libraries, schools and businesses, learn from their experiences, share their own and get inspired with new ideas. Among Chicago libraries the group visited Northwestern University Library, Indian Trails Public Library, Schaumburg District Library, Chicago Public Library, Palatine Public Library, Harper College Library and others. The delegates also met with Jim Schwantz, mayor of the city Palatine, and Konstantin Kudryk at the General Consulate of Ukraine in Chicago. At the end of the 10-day program, each delegate took home a certificate of graduation, “READ” poster with their photos on it from Indian Trails Public Library District (made only for celebrities) and, of course, tones of pictures, memories and new ideas. Among those ideas was creating a section of Ukrainian language literature at some of the American libraries, which is yet to be seen.

	English Speaking club dedicated to The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF). It was held by the head of the center Svitlana Usenko and the President of Speaking Club Vasil Tofel. The International Renaissance Foundation (IRF) was founded in April 1990. IRF is an integral part of the International Soros network which incorporates national and regional foundations in more than thirty countries around the world. These foundations share a common goal of supporting educational, social and legal initiatives that promote the development and establishment of an open society. The International Renaissance Foundation finances projects and programs which foster the development of civil society, promote rule of law and independent mass media. Funds are also allocated for diversification of information resources for the third sector, democratization of education and public health, advancing of social capital and academic publications, as well as ensuring protection of national minorities rights and their integration into Ukrainian society. Over the period from 1990 to 2008 the International Renaissance Foundation supported numerous Ukrainian non-government organizations (NGOs), community groups, academic and cultural institutions, publishing houses etc. in the amount of over $ 100 million. Vasil Tofel: As always, it was very interesting to meet new people at our Club`s meeting. We paid attention to George Soros charity activity and International Renaissance Foundation. In addition, we discussed the practice of charity in Ukraine. Hellen Anufrieva: I’ve met a lot of new people and found out their opinion about charity. It was extremely interesting to find out about George Soros charity foundation and their activity in Ukraine.
April 6th
	Excursion of the librarians of district libraries of Dnipropetrovsk region who visited the educational seminar in Dnipropetrovsk Regional Science Library. The librarians got acquainted with the resources and possibilities for learning of the English language
April 3rd
	English Speaking club. The meeting was dedicated to the American Poetry. It was held by Svitlana Kolesnikova. The center was visited by 3 young guests, American-mormons Gruver, Hukill, Turhblom. They declared some verses and told the members of the club about their favorite poems. The book exhibit «April is a National Poetry Month» acquainted the visitors with the best examples of creativity of American poets. The members of the meeting discussed the creative work of such well-known poets as Emily Dickenson, Robert Frost, Edgar Allan Poe, Langston Hughes and others During the preparation to the meeting the materials from the site Popular Culture Universe were used http://pop.greenwood.com/browse.aspx?id=H2831017 Svitlana Kolesnikova: The meeting devoted to Poetry was merely amazing! Everybody prepared some poems of their favorite American poets and declared them. Besides we had a wonderful opportunity to communicate with Americans, they also agreed to declare some poems. Furthermore the Members of the Club found out a lot of new information about American poetry in general and appreciated the chance to learn some facts of the most significant American poets like Emily Dickenson and others.

	В центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбувся «English Speaking club». Темою дискусії стала важливість наявності гумору в житті кожного – «1 April – Fool’s Day». Присутні ознайомилися з зразками американського гумору. Згадали власні розіграші та поділилися планами наступних. Слайд-шоу з гумористичних картинок покращило настрій присутніх. 	В центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбулася Інформаційна година, присвячена Дню народження видатного американського (німецького походження) психолога, соціолога, філософа Еріха Фромма (1900 - 1980). До центру «Вікно в Америку» завітали студенти Національної металургійної академії разом з викладачем Олександрою Миргородською.
20 березня
	В центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбувся «English Speaking club» присвячений Дню народження видатного американського (німецького походження) психолога, соціолога, філософа Еріха Фромма (1900 - 1980). Його підготували та провели керівник Центру Світлана Усенко та студентка Національної металургійної академії Світлана Колесникова. Темою зустрічі розмовного клубу була «Психологія, філософія та соціологія в сучасному житті». Тема дуже зацікавила усіх учасників, тому дискутували усі без винятку, доводячи свою точку зору. Особливий акцент зробили на дитячу психологію та методи виховання дітей у наш час. Завдяки цікавому тексту (дидактичний матеріал), ми дізналися достатньо багато цікавої інформації щодо біографії Еріха Фромма, а відео з цим видатним психологом та соціальним філософом не залишило нікого байдужим: деякі учасники так зацікавилися, що вирішили ознайомитися з теоріями Фромма більш детально. Захід доповнювали книжкова виставка з фондів Центру «Психологія навколо нас» («Psychology is around us»). На кінець зустрічі відвідувачам Центру було запропоновано для перегляду слайд-презентація про країну філософій та філософів – Індію. Її підготувала школярка Поліна Алад’їна.

	Користувачам Центру «Вікно в Америку» презентовано книжкову виставку «Психологія навколо нас» («Psychology is around us»), що присвячена Дню народження видатного американського (німецького походження) психолога, соціолога, філософа Еріха Фромма (1900 - 1980).
13 березня
	В центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбувся «English Speaking club» присвячений 82 церемонії вручення нагород американської кіноакадемії Оскар. Його підготували та провели керівник центру Світлана Усенко, студентка Національної металургійної академії Світлана Колесникова. Захід доповнювала виставка перегляд «Oscar» та виставка «Подивився фільм – прочитай книгу» («You’ve seen the movie… Now read the book») (книги та фільми-екранізації). Знайомство: присутні назвали себе та розповіли про свої улюблені кінофільми. Англомовні члени розмовного клубу отримали інформацію про сьогорічних номінантів та переможців. Спілкування тривало навколо кіномистецтва, уподобань і прихильностей. Члени розмовного клубу різні за віком, тож вони розповіли про дуже різні фільми. Від Кирила Галабурди дізналися про Дніпропетровський кіноклуб, що веде захоплений у кіно студент Євген Шевченко. Вадим Савескул порівняв американське кіномистецтво з японським. Відвідали бібліотечну мистецьку виставку, дізналися про українське мистецтво вишивки хрестиком, роботи Тетяни Кузнєцової. Всіх вразив портрет американської кіноакторки Кейт Бланшет, на яку схожа студентка Наталі Кармазь. Дружньо чаювали. Безперечно, всі емоційно збагатилися під час такого спілкування, отримали чудовий настрій.
6 березня
	В центрі «Вікно в Америку» відбувся «English Speaking club». Центр відвідали 5-ро іноземних гостей з Бразилії, Португалії, Єгипту та Польщі. (Poland (Karolina), Egypt (Bahaa Hussain), Portugal (Joao Teixeira), Brazil (Jessika, Robson Corvalho). Всі вони учасники AIESEC – самої великої в світі міжнародної громадської організації, яка дає можливість молоді розвинути в собі лідерські, професійні та особисті якості для позитивного впливу на суспільство. Члени розмовного клубу були запрошені до участі в освітньому проекті «Skills Matter». Також їм було прорекламовано освітній семінар Unistudy (про навчання за кордоном, про міжнародні стипендійні програми), який відбудеться 18 березня у Дніпропетровську. Спілкування тривало навколо Міжнародного жіночого Дня. Було цікаво дізнатися історію його виникнення в США та сучасні традиції святкування у різних країнах. Невеличка книжкова виставка відповідала на питання «Woman is …». Чоловіча половина членів розмовного клубу привітала дівчат зі святом. Karmaz’ Natalka: The atmosphere was so pleasant and friendly. It was so interesting to listen to the stories told us by foreigners. We had nice possibility of communicating to educated people from different countries. The participants told us about the organisition AIESEC in other countries.The young man from Egypt who has been working in AIESEC for 7 years informed us about the advantage of his work . Then the participant from Portugal told us about his experience of visiting another countries There were also international students from Brazil and Poland. We were discussing the traditions in celebration of International Women Day. It was interesting to know that In Portugal men present flowers only for their beloved women, at work they give women only chocolate. We have wonderful time spent in practice of English

27 лютого
	Відбувся «English Speaking club» - зустріч з носіями мови. Гостями Центру були – американець, волонтер Корпусу Миру – Сет Паркхурст (Seth Parkhurst, Peace Corp, Tennessy) та учасник програми AEISEC з Бразилії Робсон Карвальо (Robson Calvalho). Присутні представилися, гості розповіли про себе. Виникло багато питань до гостей, на які вони радо відповіли. Волонтер Корпусу Миру Сет Паркхурст проводить в Україні тренування школярів з бейсболу та волейболу, наголошує увагу молоді на загрозі ВІЛ/СНІДу. Він розповів багато цікаво про життя в Америці та про свій досвід, здобутий в Україні. Також усі з задоволенням прослухали розповідь бразильцю Робсона Карвальо про його країну, про капоеро. Під час заходу також відбулася презентація навчального тренажера RosettaStone та була презентована виставка «Подивився фільм – прочитай книгу» («You’ve seen the movie… Now read the book») (книги та фільми-екранізації). Виставка одразу привернула увагу присутніх – Віра Немировська взяла прочитати адаптоване видання (розповідь про трагедію «Тітаніка») та однойменний DVD-фільм.
25 лютого
	Екскурсія. До центру завітали бібліотекарі-бібліографи з районних бібліотек області, що перебували на навчальному семінарі в нашій Обласній науковій бібліотеці, та група студентів Національного металургійного університету України з викладачами. Керівник Центру Світлана Усенко розповіла про історію створення, фонди Центру, задачі та досягнення майже за 6 років існування. Ознайомила з книжковими виставками «Нові надходження до Центру» (New Arrivals) та День Президентів (Presenent’s day). Прорекламувала електронні ресурси центру (підручники з касетами, тренажер RosettaStone та ін…), що допоможуть сучасними методами вивчати англійську мову.
20 лютого
	Відбувся «English Speaking club» присвячений святу - Дню Президентів. Центр прикрашали книжкова виставка та виставка плакатів присвячена Аврааму Лінкольну. Присутні обмінялися думками на тему «інститут президентства», порівняли їх у США та Україні. Хто є «батьком» американської конституції? Хто з американських президентів обирався 4-ри рази? Вам подобається Американська політична система? Хто є вашою улюбленою політичною фігурою США? Які якості роблять політика гарним політичним лідером? Чи вважаєте ви вірним обирати президента більш ніж на 2 строки? Хто був (чи є) найкращим Президентом США та чому? Чи хотіли б Ви стати Президентом? Щоб у країні змінили тоді? Оля Ігнатюк підготувала проведення виборів Президенту клубу, визначила критерії за якими обрали президентом «мудрого». А першу леді обрав вже сам президент з тих дівчаток, хто створив найгарніший прапор для майбутньої держави.
16 лютого
	Екскурсія. До центру завітали студенти Національної металургійної академії України разом з викладачем Олександрою Миргородською. Вони переглянули виставку фільмів про кохання та слайд-шоу присвячене святу всіх закоханих – Дню Святого Валентина.
13 лютого
	Відбувся «English Speaking club» присвячений святу всіх закоханих - Дню Святого Валентина. Його підготували та провели Світлана Усенко, Світлана Колесникова, студентки Національної металургійної академії Наталка Кармазь та Ольга Ігнатюк. Всі члени розмовного клубу були дуже активні – не всі матеріали були використані через брак часу, хоч зустріч тривала 6 годин! Наталка Кармазь підготувала яскраве слайд-шоу Happy St. Valentine's day («Історія свята та відомі афоризми про кохання»). Присутні налаштувалися на романтичну хвилю та висловили думки на такі теми: Жінка – це Чоловік – це… Кохання – це… Різниця між коханням та закоханістю. Як ви собі уявляєте ідеальний день? Членами розмовного клубу різні за віком, тож і думки часом дуже відрізнялися – виникла дискусія. Оля Ігнатюк підготувала завдання – написати валентинку своїй симпатії. Хтось отримав 3 валентинки (улюбленці клубу – Світлана Колесникова та Сергій Кириченко!), але ніхто не залишися без неї, бо Оля про це потурбувалася – поздоровила кожного особисто. Було ще одне чудове завдання – скласти комплімент своєму сусідові. І теж кожний почув щось приємне про себе. Передивилися коротке відео про те, як робиться шоколад – головний подарунок на свято Валентина. Послухали гарну музику. Відвідали бібліотечну художню виставку, дізналися про мистецтво батіку (малювання на шовку) та насолодилися гарними роботами дніпропетровських майстрів. Дружньо чаювали. Безперечно, всі емоційно збагатилися під час такого спілкування, отримали чудовий настрій. Відзняте відео дозволить провести «роботу над мовними помилками». На кінець заходу було одне тільки побажання: Треба проводити більше подібних свят в Центрі «Вікно в Америку»!
6 лютого
	Відбувся «English Speaking club». Його підготували та провели Світлана Усенко, Світлана Колесникова, Сергій Кириченко. Перед початком спілкування переглянули уривок з фільму «Джулі та Джулія». Це фільм з обмінного фонду матеріалів для вивчення англійської мови, який започаткував «Президент Клубу» Василь Тофель. Календар знаменних дат Америки підказав тему для спілкування – 125 років з дня народження відомого американського письменника, лауреата Нобелівської премії (1930 р.), найбільшого сатирика своєї доби Сінклера Льюіса. Світлана Усенко підготувала 2 тематичні довідки – англомовну та російськомовну про життя та творчість письменника, та невеличку виставку з використання дошки фліп-чарт. Слайд-шоу про (16 слайдів) познайомило присутніх з біографією та пам’ятними подіями в житті визначного американського письменника Сінклера Льюіса. Дискусія тривала про літературу та улюблені книги. Активіст центру Сергій Кириченко підготував загадки та ігри. Особливістю засідання було те, що всі присутні мали яскраві беджі зі своїми іменами, що спонукало до спілкування та полегшувало спілкування для нових членів клубу.
30 січня
.	Відбувся «English Speaking club» за темою «The USA and Ukraine are expecting for the Winter Olympic Games. Vancouver 2010». Присутні були поінформовані про те, що у канадському місті Ванкувер розпочнуться чергові зимові Олімпійські ігри. 5 000 атлетів будуть змагатися 17 днів. Згадали історію зимових Олімпіад та зимові види спорту, здобутки українських спортсменів (Оксана Баюл, Володимир Петренко), імена молодих спортсменів. Близько 60-ти українських спортсменів будуть виборювати медалі в Ванкувері – це фігуристи, лижники, біатлоністи. А в такому незвичайному виді спорту, як керлінг, нам медалей поки що не дочекатися. Переглянули фото, що проілюстрували розвиток цього спорту в Канаді.
23 січня
	Відбувся «English Speaking club». Присутні прослухали аудіо-запис «Martin Luter King Birthday». Прочитали, переклали та обговорили крилаті вислови відомого політичного діяча. Найбільш вразили такі: Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter. Our scientific power has outrun our spiritual power. We have guided missiles and misguided men. We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools. 22 січня 2010 року – виповнилося 135 років з дня народження Девіда Уорка Гріффіта, американського кінорежисера, теоретика кіно, з творчості якого починається відлік історії кіно як особливого мистецтва. Бібліографічна довідка познайомила присутніх з його біографією. Переглянули невеличку частину фільму «Народження нації» та «Фільм про фільм». Обговорили тематику фільму, його художні засоби. ВасильТофель: "The Birth of a Nation" is too long and a bit controversial (because support racist ideology). But at the same time this movie was extremely spectacular in 1915.
20 січня
	Друг центру «Вікно в Америку» музейний працівник Валентина Коваленко запросила 4-х американців на екскурсію до Центру. Вони дізналися про мету створення, задачі бібліотечного центру, про його ресурси та людей що його відвідують.
19 січня
	Керівник центру «Вікно в Америку» Світлана Усенко прийняла участь у заході «Підвищення кваліфікації працівників Дніпропетровського історичного музею». Історики та екскурсоводи дізналися про мету створення Центру при Дніпропетровській обласній науковій бібліотеці, задачі інформаційного центру, про його ресурси та людей що його відвідують. Було порекламовано навчальний тренажер з англійської мови RosettaStone. Всім були роздані рекламні матеріали – запрошення відвідувати Центр та стати членом розмовного English Speaking Club.
16 січня
	Відбувся «English Speaking club». Увагу присутніх привернула виставка словників «The word of dictionary» - традиційних та на електронних носіях, були і словники видавництва Merriam-Webster. Всіх присутніх ознайомили з біографією та життєвим подвигом Ноа Вебстера – видатного американського лексикографа, автора першого американського словника. Завданням для членів розмовного клубу стало розглянути та проаналізувати словник. Юрій Баров про Webster's New World College Dictionary: «Бачу великий обсяг інформації, зручне розташування, легкий пошук по словнику, оригінальний дизайн сторінок». Василь Тофель про Merriam-Webster's Biographical Dictionary: «А я у біографічному словнику знайшов інформацію навіть про українського гетьмана Богдана Хмельницького!» Обговорювали: - актуальність використання словників у сучасному житті - хто частіше ними користується та задля якої мети - відмітили різницю між звичайними словниками та між електронними Дійшли висновку, що електронними словниками користуватися зручніше. Молодь висловила думку, що словники важливі для перекладачів, а самі вони не дуже ними захоплюється. Згадали, що світ святкував День Бітлз. Заспівали пісень. Для збільшення лексичного запасу присутніх пограли в гру «Показуха» (Word building). Це командна гра, яка не тільки розширює лексичний запас, але й тренує кмітливість.
13 січня
	Презентовано виставку «The word of dictionary». Це була виставка словників - традиційних та на електронних носіях. Особливе місце на стелажі займали словники видавництва Merriam-Webster.
9 січня
	Відбувся «English Speaking club». Календар знаменних дат Америки підказав тему для спілкування – день народження відомого співака, короля рок-н-ролу Елвіса Преслі. Аудиторія з захопленням пристала на пропозицію заспівати пісень Елвіса Преслі. На ресурсі Youtube.com знайшлися гарні ролики-караоке.
